The late Dr. Francis Schaeffer (Wrote the book; 1973), How Should We then Live? Regarding the death of values, through the secular humanistic philosophies that have replaced Judeo Christian teachings in our modern culture, Dr,
Schaeffer stated in 1973:
“We see two effects of our loss of meaning and value. The first is degeneracy. The marks of ancient Rome scar us; degeneracy, decadence, depravity and a love of violence for violence sake.” “The second result is that the elite will exist. Society cannot stand chaos. Some group, or some person will fill the vacuum. An elite will offer us arbitrary absolutes, through existential thought and who will stand in its way.” (Modern- “Political Correctness”, ‘Pragmatism” “Tolerance”, and
“Plurality of Society”) Dr. Schaeffer states: “Pragmatism, doing what seems to work without regard for principles of right or wrong is largely in control. In both international, and home affairs, expediency—- at any price to maintain personal peace and affluence at the moment —— this is the accepted procedure. Absolute principles have little meaning in the place to which the decline of western thought has come.” My commentary: Dr. Frankie Schaeffer was probably one of the most brilliant philosophical minds
and educated theologians of the previous generation. He was prophetic with what
he saw some 40+ years ago. For the sake of not offending others, regardless of their decadency, and for the
sake of materialistic gain, we now tolerate depravity, immorality, and violence as
acceptable and entertaining. It is only when it personally affects our own lives that
we then reconsider the truth of right and wrong. Our culture has abandoned the
biblical absolutes of our Judeao Christian roots. Therefore society cannot define
the terminology with which they debate the issues of culture. Such moral issues
as fornication and homosexuality, forbidden in the Holy scritpures, are now, not
only accepted, but are taught and promoted as positive alternative lifestyles by
the Hollywood elite, the media modules, intellectual educators, and%
